Looking for a way to contribute to the community? Just love hanging around the Library? Then we have a job for
YOU! Consider donating some of your time to the Library by becoming a volunteer.
Volunteers perform a multitude of tasks from shelving books to assisting with computers. We interview all
potential volunteers to assess their interests and skills and place volunteers accordingly within the Library.
Steps to Volunteering
Tell us About Yourself: We will need some information about any work or computer experience you may
have, hours that you are available, and of course, how much time you have to give. You can call us
at 248-682-2120 or fill out the online form.
Get Oriented: You will be scheduled for an orientation session with a staff member of the department
you are assigned to. This session will include a tour of the library, the ins and outs of being a volunteer,
and what projects you will be working on.
Active Duty: Once you have been oriented, you can begin volunteering. While not all projects at the
library are glamorous, the work that you do will help to make the library a better place for everyone in
the community. Volunteers will be scheduled for 2 or 3 hours on a weekday or 3 to 4 hours on a Saturday.
For example, shifts during the week could be 3:00 - 5:00, 6:00 - 8:00, or 7:00- 9:00. Shifts on Saturday
could either be 10:00 - 1:00 or 1:00 - 5:00.
