Summer Reading Fun

Encourage your children to get excited about books and reading this summer by creating imaginative and comfortable reading spaces inside and outside.  Create a fun and cozy place for your children to read with you or on their own.

Beach Reading: Use a child-sized plastic swimming pool, put pillows inside that could be colors you would see in the lakes or ocean or use some nautical pillows in the shape of seashells or fish.  If your pool is inside, decorate the walls surrounding the pool with beach pictures that you draw together or palm tree leaves you cut from green construction paper.  If your pool is outside, set it under big shady "palm" tree.

Campsite Reading:  Set up a small tent if you have one or use sheets draped over furniture.  Put a sleeping bag inside your tent. You might also want to put in a lawn chair if you're having a group story time! Keep toasty warm with an imaginary campfire made from a circle of rocks (you could use blocks instead) and some crumpled red and orange tissue paper.  Put a cooler in your tent with some yummy snacks inside!
