 Positive Parent-Teacher Conferences

As parent-teacher conferences quickly approach, here are some tips to make the most of your conference.
  • Be prepared by looking over recent assignments and other school work so that you are familiar with what your child is learning and how well they are doing.
  • Ask your child some questions prior to the conference.  For example:
    • What is your favorite subject?
    • What do you find easy and hard?
    • Who are your friends in school?
  • Write down any questions you wish to ask your child's teacher.  For example:
    • What skills will my child be expected to master this year?
    • How are students evaluated, what is your homework policy?
    • You may also want to ask about your child's social interactions in school?
  • Be open to suggestions from the teacher and be prepared to listen.
  • Share any information about your child with their teacher that you think is important for him/her to know.
  • Take notes and remember not to go over your alloted time.  If you need more time to speak with your child's teacher, set up another day and time to meet.
