Yamasaki in Detroit

Author John Gallagher explores the life, creative drive and notable projects of modernist architect, Minoru Yamasaki, who was based in Detroit for 40 years. In the 1960s, Yamasaki appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, served on President Kennedy's committee to redesign Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., and was selected to design the original World Trade Center. Yamasaki designed many buildings in Metro Detroit, including Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Hills. Learn more about this famed architect, his influences, philosophy and achievements.
