WEST BLOOMFIELD OPTIMISTS ANNOUNCES REGISTRATION
FOR JUNIOR GOLF TOURNAMENT

The Optimist Club of West Bloomfield will host a junior golf tournament on Tuesday, June 24th, 2008, at Wabeek Country Club. There will be two age brackets for boys and girls ages 14 to 15 and ages 16 to 18. Wabeek Country Club is located at 4000 Clubgate Lane in Bloomfield Hills, MI. A Continental Breakfast is at 7:30am, with Tee Time at 8:00 am. Lunch and Awards program follows the tournament.

The winners may be eligible to play in the 2009 Michigan Optimist District Tournament June 2009. This allows players to attempt to qualify for the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship July 2009, at PGA National Resort and Spa in Florida.

The Optimist International Junior Golf Championships is one of the largest and most prestigious junior golf events in the world. Since 1978, Optimist-sponsored golf tournaments have served as a springboard for many of golf’s greatest players. Phil Mickelson, Michelle McGann and Nancy Lopez are just a few of today’s elite players who found their humble beginnings with the Optimists. Former winners of the Optimist International- sponsored tournaments won titles in all four 1997 Major PGA events:

Masters – Tiger Woods
U.S. Open – Ernie Els
British Open – Justin Leonard
PGA Championship – Davis Love III

Lt. John Himmelspach, with the West Bloomfield Police Department is chair of this year’s local golf tournament. He noted that, “The Optimist Junior Golf Program’s builds positive values in young people through participation in the local, state and international junior golf events.” Over 5,000 boys and girls from the United States and Canada compete in the qualifying tournaments each year.

The entry fee is $25 per player. Checks should be made payable to Optimist Club of West Bloomfield and mailed to:
